FRECCIAROSSA

One of the probably least known, but very conveniently located wine regions in Italy is Oltrepo Pavese. It is Europe’s third largest growing region of Pinot Noir after Champagne and Burgundy and is located only one hour south of Milan. The region boasts with breathtaking views over vineyards, the Po river valley and the Swiss Alps, and impresses with an authentic delicious cuisine and many great Pinot Noir based wines in form of reds and Metodo Classico sparkling wines. Oltrepo is the “realm” of Pinot Noir, with over 3 thousand hectares under vines making it the biggest by extension in Italy.
Frecciarossa winery is a “must see” estate, when visiting Oltrepo Pavese. Lead by wine passionate owner Valeria and followed by her son, the winery is producing great Pinot Noirs, both vinified in red and sparkling wine. The Estate has always worked organically, but recently was also certified biological. Mother and son are very focused on their Pinot Noir red wine production and we must say that we are impressed by their back-vintage Pinot Noirs, but flabbergasted by the ones that still will be released, as they show an elegance and finesse that one normally only finds in Burgundy.
While the estate not only impresses with a very nice cellar, it also includes a Villa from early 1900 and 53 acres of vineyards of a total of 78 acres of land.
Biodiversity is a subject that is very dear to Valeria and her team and when visiting the Estate you only have to take one step and a look into the vineyards and you see what effort is being made to achieve biodiversity and sustainability.
The result of this investment into the vineyards can easily be recognized in the quality of the wines.
